Tell Minns to stop the cuts to NSW preschools in long day care

Three in four NSW children attend preschool in long day care.

And yet the Minns Government is cutting $150 million from their preschool programs from 1st January.

Community preschools are also having their funding slashed.

At a time when families are under more pressure than ever, and parents want to see quality lifting, it is the worst possible moment to take money out of early learning.

This cut to funding will mean not-for-profit long day care providers could be forced to increase their fees to cover the gap in costs – an increase parents simply can’t afford.

80% of working families rely on long day care services to balance work and family – there is no way these parents can juggle public preschool hours, which run 9am – 3pm, 2-3 days a week for only 40 weeks a year.

Many good quality centres have closed in the last year, and these cuts could make matters worse as more centres may be forced to close - making it even harder for parents to find a quality centre for their child.

We need to show the Premier that parents, educators and people right across NSW won’t stand for these cuts.

Early education is a critical part of children’s learning journey, and our government should be investing in it, not slashing funding.
